In a post called Has Andy Beal Given Up Poker, Lou
suggested that Beal's retirement would be a short one since he only lost a relatively small amount of money considering
his massive wealth.
Dr. Pauly is hoping
that some of his readers can help out with two worthy causes. One has to do with potential bone marrow donors and the
other is a fund raiser for Leukemia.
Full Tilt Poker is helping
out with the Leukemia fund raiser. They’re hosting an online poker tournament on February 26th. Go stop by Pauly’s poker blog
for more details.

On a
lighter note, I saw this article online and it made me laugh. Sonya
Thomas recently won an eating contest by slamming down 26 grilled
cheese sandwiches in 10 minutes.
The European Poker Tour is in Deauville, France right now and
Day 1A just ended. Robert
Cohen is the tourney chipleader and Theo Jorgensen is close behind in second.
Approximately 417 players
signed up for this event. I’m not sure if the EPT or the Deauville
Casino was expecting this large of a field.
They had to break up Day 1 into 2 fields. 209 players started
Day 1A and the field has since thinned down to 57. Day 1B starts tomorrow on Thursday and the final table is set for
Sunday.
The LIPS Poker Conference will include lectures and advice from several poker professionals.
There will also be a poker tournament, door prizes and a raffle. The proceeds from the raffle will benefit the
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Linda Johnson, Jan Fisher, Mark Seif, Kathy Liebert, Roy Cooke
and several other pros will be in attendance. The pros will be available to provide some personalized “face to
face” instruction.
I always like checking out the Two Plus Two forums to see what’s going on. There’s always a lot of chatter about NYC card rooms
getting raided by the police.
The NYPD just won't allow large card rooms to operate in the city anymore.
They’ve been shutting them all down. It’s unfortunate too since most people in NY and NJ love playing in
these clubs.
The good thing is that not all of the clubs have been shut down. The smaller clubs have seemed
to thrive in this year long assault on illegal card rooms.
The smaller clubs provide players with a place
to play but unfortunately the game selection drops off since the clientele is much smaller. I guess it’s better
than nothing.
On Wednesday, I put up a post about Texas billionaire Andy Beal and his
current trip to Las Vegas. Andy decided to take on Doyle Brunson’s crew again and Card Player Magazine is tracking his progress.
According to Card Player, Andy Beal is
currently down about $2.8 million since he landed in town on Wednesday. I’m not sure if Andy returned for play
today. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
They’re playing $50,000 - $100,000 limit
Hold’em. Both sides bought in for $10 million and the event is taking place at the Wynn poker room. Don’t get too excited because the area is closed off to
the public.
Supposedly Todd Brunson was first up in the rotation on Wednesday. He ended up losing around $1
million which is a shock since he cleaned out Andy the last time.
Snoop
Dogg is hosting a poker tournament where the winner of the event will get $1 Million. How funny is that!!
This event will be called the $2
Million Rappers Challenge. The tournament will take place on The Big Easy which is a casino
boat.
The buy-in for the tournament is $15,000 and there’s a guaranteed prize pool of $2 million.
Included in the entry fee is a round trip airline ticket and a room.
Josh
Arieh wrote a post about an incident that occurred at a local poker game in Atlanta. Josh just recently started
playing in this game and even recommended it to a few people.
Gambling is illegal in Georgia like most
places but Josh thought this game was safe. Unfortunately, he was wrong because the local
game got robbed.
Two men robbed the place and even made everyone strip down to their underwear.
This was the event that Jen Harman co-hosted with
Dan Marino, John Elway and Roger Clemens.
Doyle Brunson,
Johnny Chan, Phil Ivey, Barry Greenstein, Mike Sexton, Todd Brunson, Chris Moneymaker, Gus Hansen, Hoyt Corkins, Eric
Lindgren, Chau Giang, and Marco Traniello all showed up to play in this charity event.
Paris Hilton and Phil Hellmuth are going to be penthouse neighbors at the W Las Vegas Hotel. It
sounds like a bad reality TV show but it isn‘t. It’s just Las Vegas!
Phil won a Las Vegas condo
in a poker tournament recently. The tourney was held during the Sundance Film Festival
in Park City, Utah.
Paris Hilton got her penthouse the old fashioned way. She bought it outright. After
winning the tournament, Phil decided to upgrade his new condo into a penthouse.
Dr. Pauly did a
great job covering the tournament for the Borgata
Casino. Go stop by his poker blog. He also has some great photos of the
players in action.
The Grinder is running very well right now. This was his second consecutive final table.
He lost out to Scotty Nguyen in heads up play in Tunica last week.
The open challenge between Andy Beal and the Corporation might finally go
down tonight. John Caldwell and Poker News
have reported that the Dallas billionaire banker is heading to Las Vegas to take on Doyle Brunson and his high stakes crew. The Professor, the
Banker, and Suicide King is a great book that documents some of the history between Andy and the Corporation.
Poker News mentions that
tonight’s private game will take place somewhere at the Wynn Casino.
The limits are $100,000/$200,000 and Todd Brunson is supposedly playing against Andy first. Wow!!
Day 3 of the Borgata Winter Open’s
Main Event finished up and Erick Lindgren is the chipleader. There are 6 players left and the TV final
table is set. Action will begin at 5pm on Wednesday. The winner of this event gets $1.1 million!
Criminal charges against three Colorado poker players were
recently dismissed. The three players were originally busted by a SWAT team in a raid that happened back in April.
The defendants were caught playing in an illegal poker game located in a restaurant. One of the players busted
during this raid was a former police chief of a neighboring town!
Many people thought the police overreacted
with the SWAT team. Shortly after the arrest, the District Attorney's office decided to dismiss the charges against all 22
players.
